It’s Finally Finished!!
I’ve been working on this painting for almost a month now, which is probably at least two or three times longer than it should have taken.  Life just got so crazy for a while that I never had time to work on it, so there were days when it was just staring accusingly at me while I went about all the other things that I had to do, all the while feeling guilty for neglecting my poor little painting.  But no more!  It is now complete and can live in happiness in PaintLand or do whatever paintings do once they’re finished.  Maybe grab a few cocktails down at the pub or something, I don’t know.
As far as what this painting is about, or why I painted it, let me just say this:  Nothing says inspiration to me like music.  Whether I’m jamming to it, playing it, writing it, or getting concert highs from it while I’m off seeing my favorite bands perform, there is really nothing that feels so inspiring as music.  Music is magic.  And who doesn’t love magic??
The inspiration for this painting came from the new album by States.  They’re one of my favorite bands and I was fortunate enough to get to see them play the first show on their tour with Circa Survive and Maps & Atlases. AND since they brought along the new album on the tour, I was fortunate enough to score that almost a full month  before the official release date!  I was psyched, and once I listened to the new album I just had this idea of what I wanted to paint.  I used lyrics from Generation because these lyrics really represent what States is all about; being who they are and doing what they want to do, no matter what anyone else thinks. Sometimes we forget that it’s possible, but they’re helping us to remember.  And that’s really what I was trying to capture with this painting.
Once I had the idea, it was just a matter of finding some photos to base the silhouettes off of (easy),  and then actually painting it (slightly more challenging).  All I can say is, Thank Goodness for tiny brushes, because microphone cords are tiny, too.  And, in hindsight, it probably would have been easier to use actual stencils for the letters rather than doing them by hand to look like stencils.  Oh, well.  I think I’d feel like a cheater if I did it that way, anyway.  Now, I don’t pretend to be the best painter in the world; I just paint for fun and to relax.  But I do feel really good about this painting now that it’s done!  The only unforeseen problem is that I’m basically out of wall space and I don’t know what to do with it, so it’s just kind of chilling in  the middle of my room for me to trip over multiple times daily.  But I’m okay with that.  As long as I don’t  hurt it when I trip over it.  Because then I’d be sad.
This was a really long post, so if you actually read the whole thing, I’m impressed! The moral of the story is: States is an incredible band and if you haven’t checked them out yet, you definitely should; tiny brushes rule; and completed paintings like to drink cocktails at the local pub in PaintLand.

THIS. IS. SO. AWESOME!!! AGH! Thank you so much <3
